Dunk Calculator exists because people deserve accurate, transparent calculations they can trust — not vague rules of thumb. Find out exactly how high you need to jump to dunk — and how far away you are right now.
About this site: Dunk Calculator is an independent educational resource. Its results are estimates for training and curiosity — not a substitute for guidance from a qualified strength and conditioning coach before you start jump training.
A small group of hoopers and engineers who believe a number is only useful when you understand where it comes from.

Product & Accessibility
Builds the calculation engine and keeps the site fast, accessible, and privacy-first across every device.
Dunk Calculator began as a frustration: most online calculators hand you a number with no explanation, no sources, and a page buried in ads. We wanted the opposite.
So we built one thing properly: a dunk calculator that shows its working, and a growing library of guides that explain what the number actually means.
We turn established formulas into fast, accurate tools you can use in seconds — then wrap them in plain-English explanations of what the result actually means.
The guides exist for the follow-up question every calculator should answer: “okay, so what do I do with this number?”
We earn trust the boring way: by showing our assumptions, using published athletic-testing figures, and being honest about what an estimated reach can and can’t tell you.
You can read the methodology behind every number on the relevant guide, and cross-check the math yourself.
Documented formulas
The page states the exact equation it uses — rim height plus clearance minus standing reach — and how estimated values are handled.
Published reference figures
The 1.33× reach ratio, the 6" and 9" rim clearances, and the 3–5" approach bonus are widely used athletic-testing figures, not numbers we invented.
Clear scope boundaries
We estimate a target, we don't coach you. Training to dunk carries injury risk — that's a conversation for a qualified strength coach.
Every result comes straight from the published formula — no rounding shortcuts, no averages standing in for the real calculation.
Hang time and takeoff velocity come from standard projectile-motion equations, and the rim-clearance figures are stated outright — not hidden behind a black box.
The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to a server, stored, or used to identify you.
Content and FAQs ship as crawlable static HTML. The interactive calculator hydrates on top without replacing the page.
An estimated reach is an estimate. We say so, and we tell you what hand size, mechanics, and a measured reach change — instead of pretending one number fits everyone.
The formula, the categories, the assumptions — all visible. Check the numbers against your own and verify every step.
